Global Warming

Hey this is my first post. I'm doing a project on global warming and I must say i've learned a lot. I realize during research that we need to do something quick about global warming, or else the whole world would be ruined. Our kids (when we have them) will probably never see a tree if we don't take action. We have to stop polluting our planet, and if the 100,000 people on this site do something, we might make a diiference. So try taking action with your family or friends, because the problem is now, and earth wants revenge bad....

My position on global warming.
I believe global warming is really bad for the people of Earth, but there are opposing factions to this. People actually think that the sun frying the Earth, and destroying the beautiful Arctic, Antarctic, North Pole and the South Pole is actually good!!! I mean come on people! You may think it's fine now, but come the future you'd be slapping yourselves silly for not listening to the experts. Now I have to research two opposing factions about global warming. People who believe it's serious, and people who think it's not really that important... Now lets see what people think.

At http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/kids/bigdeal.html I found why some people welcome global warming: "If you live in a very cool climate, warmer temperatures might be welcome. Days and nights could be more comfortable and people in the area may be able to grow different and better crops than they could before." Okay I agree but nothing good ever lasts. Sooner or later, the small changes in temperature, say a 2 degree increase every year, will destroy those better crop with natural disasters and droughts. I mean look at the last ice age, 18'000 years ago the average temperature of the planet was 7 degrees below what it is today... Look at that just 7 degrees below the temperature and that caused an ice age that nearly covered the whole planet. Imagine what would happen if there was a 7 degree increase in the average temperature of the planet. It would actually be like jumping from the frying pan and into fire. Plant life might be incinenerated just from the swelltering heat. We would have no clean water, because the heat would turn it into steam. We would have no means of sustaining ourselves. It would be like living in a oven at it's full temperature.

Please share this Global Warming personal action item with high school students and teachers!

Want to save the planet? Win money for college? Meet people from around the world? Work on a cool project?

The Global Challenge is looking for a high school student who is interested in helping save the planet from global warming and learning more about science, technology, engineering and mathematics while working with an international team using advanced technologies. This is a great after-school, independent study or curriculum enhancement project!

You find one other student to work with and an adult of your choosing (parent, community member, teacher, older friend). All three people must register on the web site. The Global Challenge will help your team find a similar team from one of 50 other countries (e.g. China, Korea, India, Nigeria, Mexico, etc.) and will help support the team in making weekly progress from Nov until May. You should plan to spend 1 to 2 hours per week in order to be competitive.

Put yourself on their GlobeNet map! The web site http://globenet.globalchallengeaward.org is now accepting registrations for student teams for this year's program - leading to prizes and recognition for all and scholarships for students who submit winning solutions.

See their news (http://www.globalchallengeaward.org/thisyearschallenge/news.html) for stories about last year's winning student teams!
